Matt, just wanted to thank you for being such a brilliant tutor. I've learned so much about how to use my camera that I would never have understood by reading books. It really helps that you are such a great down - to - earth guy who explains it all so well in a patient and friendly way. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to my friends and family. - Ginny Rhodes, Sheffield
Matt, thank you so much for our session. I was amazed at what could be achieved on a seemingly uninspiring, drizzly, grey morning in the Peak District. You had really taken on board the areas that I had asked you to teach me, but we also covered much more.
With your patient, clear instruction I was able to switch from shooting semi-automatic to manual right from the start. You style is relaxed and unobtrusive and I was guided to make my own pictures. The post-shoot feedback and processing completed a rewarding and enjoyable morning together. Photographers of all levels would benefit from spending time with you.- Marie Rollitt, Derbyshire.
Matt, I must admit that, before I came to you, I had actually been to two other tutors of photography - I must now add, "or at least I thought I had". I now feel that I'm learning, not only how to use my camera, but how to take photographs. Now I have a confidence that I've not previously had in 25 years of taking pictures. I'm enjoying this experience so much that I don't want this learning period to come to an end. - Peter Butcher, Sheffield
Photography Tuition
I provide 1:1 digital photography tuition to help you learn and develop as a photographer - no matter what skill level you may currently be at. I will meet you at your level and teach you at a pace which is right for you. We can start at the very basics with how to use your camera and load pictures onto your computer, or go straight in with more advanced techniques such as off-camera lighting and photoshop. Remember that all of this is dictated by you, and customised to teach you exactly what you would like to learn.
1:1 tuition is flexible to meet your needs. It could be midweek or weekend, morning, afternoon or evening. It could be an hour this week and three hours next week. You decide the frequency and duration of the tuition.
Where the tuition is held depends on what you want to learn and where you feel comfortable. If you are interested in landscape photography, we can nip out to the Peak District. If you are trying to figure out how to upload your photos onto your computer, then I can come to you and show you what to do on your own computer. If you want to learn portraiture, we can hire a studio and bring in a model. This can be as flexible as the rest of it. If you are a complete beginner to digital photography I recommend that we meet somewhere inside where it is quiet and we have access to a computer; my office would be perfect for this.
When I started in photography several years ago, I was so keen to learn and practice, looking for any opportunityto take some pictures.
Soon I realised my limitations both technically and artistically. I started looking around for courses and didn't find anything that met my needs - until I approached a few professional photographers who quickly explained they didn't have time or inclination to let me learn from them. I picked up hints and tips along the way, mainly from photography forums and books, but this style of learning wasn't ideal.
Now that I am a seasoned pro, I would like to be able to pass some of my knowledge and experience on to others. So if you feel that you could benefit from learning from a pro with a private session of tuition, please get in touch.
To keep things simple and cost effective I charge £30 per hour with no commitments to any specific number of classes. I only accept bookings in hour slots, so you could book me for one (or more) hour at a time but no half hours. A 10% discount is available to anyone booking 6 hours or more or to anyone in the military or emergency services.
